Older Voices Kildare Round Up
From one festival to another – now that Samhain is in progress, Older Voices are looking toward Bealtaine, and the festival of creativity for older people. We are currently working with a group who are hoping to put together a dramatic piece on the theme of “Capturing the Heart”. It is still in its infancy, but it is hoped to perform this piece during Bealtaine, hopefully to benefit a Co. Kildare based charity. If you would like to get involved, contact Denise on 087 1323207, or email email@example.com Don’t be shy, we are all amateurs, learning as we go.
Positive Ageing week
What is Positive Ageing Week?
Positive Ageing Week is a festival which highlights the positive aspects of ageing and celebrates the contribution older people have made and continue to make to their communities.
Bealtaine is Ireland’s national celebration of creativity as we age. It is a month-long programme each May offering opportunities for people aged 50+ to engage with arts and culture as audience, artist, critic or participant, providing enriching and enjoyable experiences. This year the theme for the festival is ‘Grow Happy’ – a call to celebrate growth, Spring and positivity for ourselves and our communities.
Bealtaine organisers share a commitment to providing access opportunities to the arts for older people, recognising this as a right, not a privilege, and as an important tool in building connections and promoting social capital.
The festival is the world’s first national festival celebrating creativity as we age and has placed the work of Age & Opportunity at the international forefront of championing creativity as an integral and life-affirming part of the process of growing older. With each festival, it is inspiring to witness creative talents rediscovered, new skills learned by our audiences and by the passion to make art.
Taking part in the festival couldn’t be easier, just plan your event and let us know when, where, and what! Older Voices Kildare is happy to promote your event on our website and through our database. You can also promote your event through Age and Opportunity, the body who organise the Bealtine Festival nationally.

“What is “normal” at any given time? We change just as the seasons change, and each Spring brings new growth. So nothing is ever quite the same.”
